Three to five million years ago, Sonoma Mountain, the long mountain to the east, was a volcano, and the valley in which the
park stands was 1,000 feet deeper. Today, much of the volcanic debris has eroded and continues to erode by creeks, like
Adobe Creek, into the valley.
