Welcome to Station 12

STATION 12 - THE VALUE OF WETLANDS

Directly southeast of the park lies the 270-acre Gray's Ranch. The section nearest the river has returned to a tidal marsh due to levee breaches caused by El Nino in 1998. Wetlands reduce flooding, soil erosion, siltration, help purify water, provide nutrients for the aquatic good chain, habitat for numerous animal/plant species, and provide recreational opportunities. In the last 150 years, ninety percent of California's wetlands have been drained or filled!
