STATION 11 - SHOREBIRDS AND MIGRATORY USE OF WETLANDS
Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, and Mallard Ducks are at the park most of the year. Others, such as the
American White Pelican, are seen more often during summer. Canada Geese and upwards of 20 different duck species
(including Blue-winged Teal, Pintail, Bufflehead and Ruddy Duck) spend the winter and spring here. Still other birds rest
and find food as they pass through. This dependence on wetlands would cause populations of migratory bird populations to
further decline if wetlands continued to be lost.
