STATION 1 - BIRDS AND THEIR ADAPTATIONS
Each species of bird is adapted for different feeding styles. For example, the Mallard Duck tips up and dabbles in shallow
waters, the Ruddy Duck dives in deeper water to feed on the bottom, and the Snowy Egret wiggles its yellow feet to locate
fish. Some birds at Shollenberger are residents, building nests and living here year around. Others spend only a few months
in the winter or spring and nest elsewhere.
