This 165-acre park was named after Richard Shollenberger, a Park Department chief. It has become increasingly popular since its opening in 1995. Now, several hundred people visit it daily: walking the family dog (please see bottom of this page), jogging, or just enjoying nature---especially the many species of birds that can be seen here. The park features a two-mile circular trail and a one-mile trail through Alman Marsh to the Petaluma Marina.

The one-mile trail from the Petaluma Marina to Shollenberger was completed in 2003.

As an introduction to the park, we have a Virtual Tour and bird lists for you. But to thoroughly enjoy the park, a personal visit is required. Directions to the park can be found in the "Conclusion", after "Station 15", in the Virtual Tour.

We would like to thank and acknowledge the photographers Norris 'Bob' Dyer and Gerald Moore who donated their photographs for the Shollenberger "Virtual Tour"

Docents provide tours of Shollenberger Park and Alman Marsh, as well as other services to foster the well-being of our public wetlands. Learn more about this opportunity in our Docent Training page.
