Sonoma County Supervisors rescheduled the discussion/vote on the Dutra asphalt plant hearing, as requested by Dutra Materials to give Dutra time to consider the U.S. Coast Guard's declaration that the plant "would create a navigational hazard to other users of the channel." The hearing will be at 3.00 PM in the Sonoma County Supervisors' meeting room, 575 Administration Dr, Suite 100A, Santa Rosa. It is important that you join us and express your feelings about an asphalt plant being located next to an environmental asset, Shollenberger Park and the adjacent wetlands that citizens of Sonoma County and visitors alike have a right to enjoy. The rescheduled hearing is the result of the Coast Guard submitting a letter to the Sonoma County Supervisors indicating a desire to further investigate Dutra's proposed barge off-load facility at Haystack Landing. The drawings for the barge off-load facility sent to the Coast Guard differ from those in the Environmental Impact Report. The Coast Guard requested that the board not take a vote until their analysis is complete. It is important that you join us and express your feelings about an asphalt plant being located next to an environmental asset, Shollenberger Park and the adjacent wetlands that citizens of Sonoma County and visitors alike have a right to enjoy. |

Shollenberger/Alman Marsh Habitat Restoration
Restoring wetlands’ habitat is scheduled on the 2nd Saturday and last Sunday of every month, weather permitting. In addition to these scheduled days, we also arrange special planting/weeding days for specific groups, such as boy scouts, schoolchildren, local businesses, and the community. Our goals are to replace the most invasive species, like thistles and pepperweed, with native plants to improve the habitats for wildlife. We usually meet at Kiosk #1, just inside the gate of Shollenberger Park. In the winter months, we plant and/or weed 9:00 to Noon; in the summer months, we water and/or weed 8:00 to 11:00 AM. Rain cancels. These restoration days are open to all, and we encourage you to join us. For more information or to add your name to our list of restoration volunteers, contact Mary Edith at maryedithmoore@comcast.net or 707-763-3577. |
